Integrated Treatment Services–A Whole Horse Approach
Injury Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
Controlled exercise encourages optimal healing of injured tendons or ligaments. A customized rehabilitation and physical therapy program can be created for your horse by monitoring the healing of tendons or ligaments with serial ultrasound examinations. Ground work or “in hand” exercises such as leg yields allow your horse to maintain a degree of fitness and flexibility while recovering from his injury.

Acupuncture is one of the most widely used and successful complementary and alternative therapies available in equine practice. It is effective for pain management, treatment of sore muscles, back pain and chronic lameness as well as non sweating, skin and internal disorders.

Biological Therapies – Your horse’s natural healing power
Tendon, ligament and joint injuries are some of the most frequently seen conditions in the performance horse. Many of the most exciting recent breakthroughs in the treatment of these conditions are based on using your horse’s own natural healing mechanisms. These therapies involve drawing blood or taking a tissue sample from your horse. The blood or tissue is processed overnight or within a few days and your horse is treated on the next visit.
  • IRAP ™ Therapy - (Interleukin-1 Receptor Agonist Protein Therapy)
This cutting edge technology is an effective alternative to traditional corticosteroid treatment for osteoarthritis. The IRAP protein, which is naturally present in the body, is collected from the patient’s blood, concentrated and reinjected into the affected joint. IRAP stops inflammation at its source and may provide longer term effects than traditional treatments. IRAP therapy has also been used in tendon and ligament injuries.
  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Platelets (blood cells that are involved in clotting) are isolated and concentrated from your horse’s blood. Platelet derived growth factors decrease inflammation, stimulate cell regeneration and reduce scar tissue formation. It is commonly used in tendon and ligament injuries.
  • Stem Cell Therapy
This innovative therapy involves using stem cells from the fat or bone marrow of your horse. These cells aid in healing of tendon and ligament injuries by enhancing tissue regeneration.
